Case Study:
A.S. a 47 year old lady had chest pain (angina) on exertion. She underwent angiography, and was found to have a blockage in the LAD , the important artery supplying blood to the front of the heart. She underwent angioplasty to this coronary artery.
Shortly afterwards, however, she continued to develop angina even on walking about a few hundred metres. Angiography was repeated. The stent was found to be open, but a branch of the LAD, called the diagonal artery was getting blocked because the stent was straddling across the mouth of the side branch. The patient was put on higher dosages of medicines, but her angina was persistent.
In desperation the patient decided to undergo “chelation therapy”. After several sittings of chelation, the patient had no relief. She underwent a second angiography, which revealed a blockage in the stent.
She was therefore advised to undergo Bypass surgery. Dr Arun Mehra performed a double bypass on her, and she made a dramatic recovery. Within 15 days of her bypass surgery she was walking two to three km and her angina is now gone forever!
Lesson from the case: Bypass surgery is the best treatment for relief from angina, and for permanent cure !
